You the cheese on my baguette...
[Image from aloveletterforyou thanks to India Knight for drawing my attention to this]
I want you like coffee, I need you like juice, I won't put you on the side like bacon, you can have me over easy.
A somewhat more romantic alternative to this song that is regularly played at work...
Desperate Romantics
It's less than a week until Valentine's Day and as much as I don't necessarily agree with the day that has been commercialised with the intention of making fellow singletons feel like shit making it our prime goal to ensure that, come next Valentine's Day, we don't find ourselves single once again sobbing into our pot noodle for one whilst watching reruns of Sex and the City and occasionally wailing "What's wrong with me?!" Cries that, of course, nobody will hear or answer to because...yes...once again...you are alone.
Anyway...tragic moments aside. I really love the romantic look at the moment. It's all about the fabrics: silk, chiffon, lace, sheer stuff; the colours: peach, white, lilac, pink, cream, black. The details: trims, ribbons, scalloped hems, frills and of course...the love.

Gwarrn Lav! Show Us Yer Ankles!
I pretty much spent the entire duration of this winter wearing skirts, dresses and shorts. This was mainly because I'm generally not a fan of trousers, the socks issue is very easy to overcome and skirts and shorts can accommodate my ever-fluctuating weight much more successfully than 'spray-on' skin tight jeans.
I'm telling myself that spring is here due to several mornings that I have awoken to the pleasant sight of daylight sneaking into my room through the blinds and the slight (yet notable) increase in temperature. For the past two weeks I've been braving it, going outside sockless and baring my ankles to the world.
My favourite ankle-skimming trousers on the high street (and in my wardrobe) are as follows...

Both from Urban Outfitters
From Mango
Both from ASOS
Amazing when worn with loafers and NO SOCKS. yay!
These beauties are from Aldo. Yum. Alternatively I quite like this terribly wholesome pair from Clarkes...and they'll wear well. Don't worry about looking like a granny... you only look like a granny if you're dressed like a granny or (funnily enough) you actually are a granny.

N.B. I remember when I read horrible histories about the Victorians (perhaps?). It basically went on about how prudish the Victorian aristocrats were and how they were offended by ankles. So much so that they used to cover up the ankles on their table legs. Hilarious. I think that was one of the many faux truths that were featured in the series.

Today I'm in Love With... Owl City
My housemate is adorable. Every now and again she'll come back here after spending the weekend at home with loads of new songs on her ipod and she spends the best part of Sunday evening playing us her new favourite songs, identifying the specific ones she thinks that each of us will like.
This week the one she chose for me, to my surprise, was 'Fireflies' by Owl City and for once I actually love it! They're like a cross between The Postal Service and The Academy Is...
Listening to them evokes some kind of floating sensation...
I wish I was 16 again.
